Brighton DAB is operated by Brighton & Hove Digital Radio CIC, a Community Interest Company. It’s asset locked to ensure that it will never be sold out to corporate media operators - and cost oriented to offer affordable rates with any surplus reinvested into maintaining and improving digital radio in the city.
Low-cost digital radio broadcasting technology was pioneered here in Brighton & Hove over the last decade by the Co-founders of Brighton DAB - with the original ‘experiment’ in 2012 and the current ‘trial’ broadcast multiplex launched in July 2015.
Brighton DAB brings together broadcast professionals who have lived and breathed radio in Brighton & Hove over three decades, with the specialist knowledge and expertise that created the UK’s first small scale digital radio test and trial services.
We have the ability to deploy a cost effective and robust broadcast local infrastructure that takes into account the technical complexities of digital broadcast radio transmission at a sustainable cost.
On January 1st 2026, Brighton and Hove Digital Radio CIC, operating as Brighton DAB will upgrade the trial with a full ‘broadcast multiplex’ licence - issued by the Ofcom - offering up to 26 radio stations with improved coverage across our unique city.
